In years past, sporting your Sunday best at Saturday’s game was the norm.
You won’t see fedoras or furs at a Gator game nowadays, but for early fans, gameday was a dress-to-the-nines occasion. As late as the 1970s, button-down shirts and ties were commonplace in the stands. In later decades, hand-sewn gameday skirts and dresses proliferated, but most students traded in their ties for T-shirts and baseball caps. Today, plenty of fans opt for flip-flops and shorts, but a growing group of students has embraced a trend toward gameday dresses (see All Strong for Old Florida), polo shirts and khakis.
